Staten Island High School battle: 13-year-old girl arrested after melee at Wagner High School

STATEN ISLAND, New York (WABC) – A 13-year-old girl was arrested after a violent brawl broke out at a high school in Staten Island on Friday.

Police say the incident happened at Wagner High School in the afternoon.

They say a 13-year-old girl had an argument with someone outside of school. The fight then spilled into the hallway of the school.

Authorities say the 13-year-old started repeatedly hitting the victim on the head and then pulled out a knife.

The suspect was eventually overpowered and arrested.

She faces charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The suspect and the victim were both taken to hospital.

Police say no one was stabbed, but the suspect injured her nose.

It is not known if the victim was injured.

The New York City Department of Education addressed the incident in a statement on Saturday:

“Violence of any kind has no place in our schools and school security officers and school staff immediately worked to defuse this situation and ensured that no student was harmed. . We are working with the NYPD regarding follow-up actions and the appropriate consequences will be taken into account. “

The school was not locked or evacuated during the incident.
