Schools invited to strengthen management committees

The Director of Education, Mr. Ramakrishnan, called on schools to strengthen school management committees (SMCs) in the district.

Speaking at a review meeting at the Millmedu Government High School in Sathyamangalam, he said SMC training is compulsory under the Children’s Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, as they play a key role in the development of schools. The state government recently decided to strengthen the committees and initially 100 state schools were selected, including 10 schools in Erode District.

The committee has a key role to play in increasing student strength and also in ensuring the teacher-student ratio. In addition, the committee raised awareness of the rights of the child and children and their parents and encouraged all eligible children to be admitted to schools. “All parents and stakeholders should cooperate to strengthen the committee,” he added.

KCP Elango, Union President Sathyamangalam Panchayat, Education Officer of Manvizhi District, Education Officer of Subbiyah Block, SC Natraj, Director of Service Unit for Rural Development Activities (SUDAR) , an NGO based in Sathyamangalam, and the parents were present.
