PIL to HC asks TN government to take over management of Kallakurichi school
CHENNAI: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Madras High Court asking the Government of Tamil Nadu to take over the management of Latha Education Society under which operates a private school in Kaniyamoor village of Kallakurichi district.
Mr. L. Ravi, President of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi has filed the petition for an interim leadership to appoint a special agent to control the administration of the school until the petition is decided.
He further asked the Department of School Education to consider his claim dated September 14 to take over the school in the interests of the safety and protection of the school’s 6,000 students.
The petitioner claimed that the petition was filed on the grounds that a female student, who was studying at the school, died in a mysterious condition and that subsequently a protest demanding justice for the girl’s death erupted. turned into massive violence.
“The reason for the girl’s death is not yet known and an investigation into the death and the violent protest is ongoing. Under such circumstances, the school should not be handed over to the same management, putting the lives of students at risk and parents in distress,” the petitioner said in his affidavit.
Ravi further stated that the same kind of issues also happened in the past. “The history of school management activity confirms the poor administration of its establishments. The management deliberately failed to prevent illegal activities inside the school,” the petitioner noted.
