Two central Kentucky high schools won their respective class titles at the Kentucky Marching Band Championships on Saturday night at Kroger Field, where Kentucky’s top 30 groups made it to the final for five class titles.

Lexington Lafayette High School won its 22nd state marching band championship by winning the AAAAA title with its program “Peace of Mind”. Madison Central High School in Richmond was second and North Hardin High School in Radcliff was third.

The Lexington school, which featured the largest marching band in the state with 212 members, has won the last four state championships. The Kentucky Music Educators Association has canceled the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

This is the first year that KMEA has selected six groups from each class to compete in the finals, which took place from 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday in Lexington. School size and group size are taken into account when determining the competitive class of a group.
