“A much-loved and respected teacher”, Ravinder Moore is retiring from Hitchin Boys’ School after 48 years of association – first as a pupil, then as a member of staff.
On behalf of the school, physical education teacher Chris Bajak said, “He has been a highly regarded and respected math teacher, a dedicated second in the physical education department and a careers coordinator.
“Ravinder has encouraged and mentored hundreds of students to play at the school, county and national levels, with many continuing their athletic careers beyond school.
“An accomplished sportsman himself, he represented Hertfordshire in rugby, cricket, hockey and football.
“Ravinder is also a proud founding member and player of the Singh Sabha Hitchin Football Club, helped form the British Asian Football Federation and was selected to play for the British Asian Football team.”
He received an Outstanding Service to Sports Award from the school, which also named its new gym The Ravinder Moore Fitness Suite.
Mr Moore said: ‘The maths department has been a phenomenal inspiration to me. It was nice of the physical education department to help me achieve a 48 year old dream of a winning Hitchin Boys’ School rugby team at Twickenham! Hockey and cricket seem to be heading in the right direction again, and athletics is where I had hoped it would be when county matches were introduced in 1988.”
