Bucks County High School Teacher Charged With Recording Ex-Student While Stripping – CBS Philly

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) — A local high school teacher and choir director is accused of hiding cameras in a bedroom of his home to secretly record a former student as he undressed. Joseph Orht, 56, of Buckingham Township, faces a number of charges.

At Central Bucks West High School, officials are urging parents to talk to their children. They fear that there will be more victims.

A teacher and choir director at Central Bucks High School is under arrest, accused of secretly taping a former student as he stripped naked.

“It’s devastating. I have two children in this school,” one parent said.

According to the criminal complaint, the 2016 graduate and choir member said the 56-year-old started guiding him during his freshman year and that when they were alone, Orht would sometimes come up from behind and the hugged her.

The victim also says that Orht touched him inappropriately and told him he loved him.

After graduating, the student moved to a room inside Orht’s house where officials say Orht hid cameras and secretly recorded the man.

“It’s a horrible set of circumstances. I feel really bad for the family,” one man said.

Detectives also say Orht tried to destroy evidence, including a laptop he submerged in water, and four cameras by giving them to the victim to dispose of. Instead, he handed everything over to the police.

In a statement, the Central Bucks School District told CBS3 that Orht submitted his retirement as of June, but has been on furlough since October, adding that he is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Orht’s biography was removed from their website early Tuesday evening.

Authorities are now urging parents to speak with their students about any contact that may have crossed the line.

“We are maintaining an open dialogue, so I’m just going to confirm that nothing happened and make sure they understand what’s right and what’s wrong,” a relative said.

Orht has taught hundreds of students over the years, including Grammy-winning P!nk, which he produced last year for a student performance of his song “What About Us” — which she personally thanked him on social media.
