Boardman Spartans High School Boys 2021-22 Basketball Preview

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Back-to-back All-American conference champions the Spartans will look to defend their title this season without the services of league player of the year Ethan Anderson.

“Our keys to a successful season will revolve around our ability to use our speed and attack teams on both ends of the pitch,” said coach Pat Birch. “We have a fair amount of experience which should benefit us in close games.”

Spartans return five letter winners to seniors Anthony Hightower, Ben Alvarico, Seth Cervello, Luke Ryan and All-Conference first-team selection Trey DePietro.

“Anthony is a very fluid player who can attack the rim and defend well,” says Birch. “Ben is a very fast goaltender who excels at attacking the rim. Seth, our playmaker, is a great defenseman. He will direct our attack. We are going to research Luke’s shooting and scoring ability. Trey is a very versatile player, who we are going to rely on for production.

Expectations remain high within the program. “Our goal is to maintain the high level of play that we have established over the past few seasons,” says Birch. “We expect to defend our conference championship and compete for a district championship. These two expectations won’t be easy by any means, but we challenge our players to set high expectations. “
