Bend instructor offering free Krav Maga self-defense classes to teachers and school staff

(Update: Clarification of free training offer)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Hunter Allen is a Bend resident who thinks it’s important for people to know how to defend themselves.

He is the owner and head instructor of Tig Tactical in Bend, which is a self-defense training facility.

Krav Maga is a military self-defense and combat system developed for the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli Security Forces. It is derived from a combination of techniques used in aikido, boxing, judo, karate and wrestling. He is known for his focus on real-world situations and his extreme efficiency.

For his non-profit organization, Stop Sudden Violence, Allen offers free Krav Maga training to recent victims of physical abuse, including trafficking. He said on Sunday he was expanding that offer to include teachers and school staff.

In fact, its goal is to train every teacher and school staff member nationwide, starting here in central Oregon.

After recently posting online about his offer, Allen said he received many enthusiastic responses from people willing to receive training, from doctors and cafe workers to teachers.

His motivation behind the offer is simple: “The more people who have effective training to save themselves, the safer an environment.”

NewsChannel21’s Bola Gbadebo speaks with Allen to learn more about his nonprofit and why he thinks Krav Maga is an important skill to learn.

His report will be on NewsChannel 21 to 6.
