Back to high school: Fennville wins second straight game

Fennville clinched a 38-27 victory over Marcellus on Saturday afternoon.
Senior QB Ben Peterson led the offense with a 12/22 record for 208 yards and 4 TD with 109 extra yards and a rushing score. Dylan Schut had five carries for 46 yards, four catches for 41 yards and one scoring. He also made 16 tackles in defense, including two for loss. His brother Tyler had five catches for 122 yards and three scores. Aiden Swingle added 13 tackles in defense.
âAs a team, we executed our game plan well,â said coach Rich Roth. âCongratulations to our guys who are preparing and playing well against an opponent who was 3-1 at the finish. An all-round team victory.
The victory brings Fennville to 2-3 over the season.
Holland Christian’s women’s swim team scored a big win in the Division 3 mid-season invite with a total of 496 points in a meeting that saw many of the division’s top 10 teams 3 at Holland Community Aquatic Center.
The Maroons started strong, winning the first 200-yard medley relay. Annie Petrak, Claire DeKievit, Samara Brinks and Maria Heeres won in 1: 51.28.
DeKievit won the 100 breaststroke (1: 11.60), with a brace with Maddie Brink (1: 14.34). Meghan Bengelink was third in the 200 freestyle (2: 03.14) and the 100 freestyle (55.30). Heeres was second in the 50 freestyle (25.38). Brinks was second in the 100 butterfly (1: 01.18). Petrak was third in the 100 backstroke (1: 02.28). Lauren Plockmeyer was second in diving (329.35 points).
Heeres, Brink, DeKievit and Bengelink were second in the 200 freestyle relay (1: 42.38).
Hamilton was seventh with 211 points. Grace Ludema was fifth in the 50 freestyle (26.40).
Grand Rapids Christian was second (496), followed by Spring Lake (284), Tecumseh (279), Otsego (231), Chelsea (217.5), Hamilton (211), Grand Rapids Catholic Central (142.5), Ludington (120) and Manistee (38).

Black River takes the first
The Black River Cross Country team participated in the Chargers Autumn Sunrise Invite. The boys’ team placed first in the Sunrise division with 35 points, the team standings were Nolan Meier in fourth, 17:37, Roger Hernandez in fifth, 18:01, Caleb Ewald in sixth, 18: 12, Jack Davis in 11th, 6:58 pm, Matthew Koeman 12th, 7:03 pm, and Owen Stimer in 20th, 7:53 pm.
The Black River Girls team placed third, Lily Laburn fourth, 8:47 p.m., Nora Ballard 13th, 11:39 p.m., Camille Wolbrink 15th, 11:45 p.m., Ayla Meier 19th, 25:28, and Savannah Thelen in the 25, 27:04.
